Energy arrears are classed as priority debts and need be paid before debts such as credit cards.

If you are struggling to pay your energy bills you should contact your energy supplier to negotiate a payment plan with them and to avoid being disconnected.
If you're in receipt of benefits you may want to consider applying for the Fuel Direct Scheme.
It may also be possible to apply for a grant to pay off energy debt.

Struggling to top up your pre-payment meter?
You may be able to get temporary credit if you speak with your supplier.

If you can’t get extra help from your supplier, you may be able to get help from Coventry City Council’s Household Support Fund until 31 March 2024. You can apply online or by calling 0808 583 4333.

You may also be able to get an Energy Grant or a Fuel Voucher.
