For those settling or resettling into the community (possibly from institutional care), or moving from temporary accommodation into permanent accommodation, there can be local financial help available from the city council via a Community Support Grant (CSG). Below are some of the key features and benefits of CSGs.
CSGs can support residents to obtain furniture and white goods, and applications can be considered for residents moving out of temporary or homeless accommodation, fleeing domestic violence or a disaster such as fire or flood.
All applications are submitted online. The city council can help residents complete an application if required over the telephone.
Though there is no definitive list of what can be applied for any award must achieve one of the following overriding objectives:
- Reduce poverty
- Support young people in the transition to adult life
- Safeguard residents in their own homes
- Help those who are trying to help themselves
- Keep families together
- Support the vulnerable in the local community
- Help people through personal and difficult events.
To apply for a CSG the applicant must be a resident of Coventry and in receipt of a qualifying benefit – such as Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, Pension Credit or Universal Credit.
Currently, the applicant will be required to provide supporting evidence for their application such as a full copy of their tenancy agreement and 8 weeks of bank statements.
Items that will be awarded will depend on household size and be supplied direct to the successful applicant from either AO.Com or Amazon.
